Nervous laughter and busy hallways marked the entrance of Castaic High School this Tuesday, as a fresh batch of incoming freshmen arrived for their orientation. The event is aimed at easing students from their familiar middle school environment into the more expansive, fast-paced world of high school.
Many of the incoming freshmen were experiencing a high school event for the first time, getting a glimpse of what the next four years might hold.
As students entered the gymnasium, music played in the background as welcoming ASB cheerleaders greeted them with warm smiles. On stage, Principal Mr. Wobrock, along with representatives from various elective classes, introduced themselves and discussed what makes high school unique.
They shared insights into the differences between middle and high school and highlighted exciting opportunities awaiting the students.
Students learned about the wide range of classes offered at CHS, including electives that weren’t available in middle school. Some examples included Journalism, Photo & Media, Marching Band, and more. They also received information about sports teams and clubs, which added a layer of excitement and curiosity about high school life.
One student, from Castaic Middle School, Jordan Beatty (8th Grade), shared an inspiring message about her thoughts on orientation, believing that “he [event] was really fun and all the clubs displayed themselves really well. [I felt] encouraged since a lot of people got involved and joined new clubs.”
Additionally, the cheer team performed an energetic dance routine, captivating the students and adding a spirited touch to the event.
Middle school students also had the opportunity to participate in a fun game, engaging their competitive side and building comfort in their new environment.
According to ASB student Charlien Crawford (9th Grade), the planning process behind the event involves several steps. “When there is an orientation, we have to [thoroughly]plan, decorate, and create activities for everyone to enjoy.”
For many of the incoming freshmen, this orientation was their first official step toward becoming high schoolers. It transformed the unfamiliar into the familiar and opened the door to a new chapter filled with learning, growth, and exciting opportunities.
As the day concluded, the incoming freshmen left with a better understanding of what to expect and a sense of readiness to begin their high school journey.
Following a successful orientation, Castaic High School continues to create a supportive environment for new students to succeed.
So let’s welcome the class of 2030 as they make their first steps towards high school.
