On February 26, 2026, Paramount agreed to ownership of Warner Bros for nearly $110 billion, which will merge massive streaming companies like Paramount+, HBO Max, CBS, and CNN.
Despite the business benefits that may come from this deal, a large number of consumers worry about the overall change in media coverage if the deal succeeds.
Why? Well, David Ellison, Skydance Media’s (the company that owns Paramount Global) CEO, has promised President Trump he will make “sweeping changes” to CNN if he happens to win the bid. (CNN.)
Because CNN is publicly known to be a left-wing news program, the public’s concern is how those promised adjustments will gradually turn the broadcast right-wing over time.
According to PBS, Ellison will additionally own roughly two-thirds of all U.S. influential media such as TikTok, CBS News, and a large portion of ownership over X (formerly known as Twitter,) which is an application largely used for the latest headlines.
Within Warner Bros, there is one specific studio being watched closely, DC Studios. James Gunn, director of “Superman,” currently has plans for an extended DC universe.
However, with the talks of a merge, this might alter and interrupt changes to the agenda DC has for its superhero franchise.
This includes possible modifications to the upcoming “Superman: Man of Tomorrow,” and the future of the beloved Batman franchise.
When it comes to Gunn, it is “no secret he’s not a fan of the current presidential regime, and he’s already been targeted by MAGA once,” states Comics Beat.
With the knowledge that Ellison is an avid supporter of President Trump, dedicated DC fans stress for what’s next to come once the deal is landed.
Other popular studios, like Star Trek, Cartoon Network, and Nickelodeon, will also be acquired under the possession of Paramount.
But this combination is apparently providing “another source of fear that more massive job losses are on the horizon for a division that has already faced steep cuts in recent years,” says Variety.
Since this deal will essentially offer those in power the opportunity to control what is reported and what is pushed through algorithms to the nation, many fear the possibility of entertainment being manipulated and altered as a whole in the near future.
