The debate has been around as long as the companies, which is better, Marvel or DC? Today the debate ends, which do the students at Castaic High School think is better?
In students’ perspective Marvel was the best, amassing 62.5% of votes.
This heated debate began when DC’s untouchable, “god like” heroes were faced against Marvel’s flawed, yet relatable characters.
The audience seemed to like the idea of characters appearing more relatable and imperfect, which is exactly

what Marvel conveys through their heroes.
Most people believe that this has always been a heated debate, and that there has always been competition between the two companies, however this is not entirely true.
Together, Marvel and DC produced crossover comics like “Superman vs. The Amazing Spiderman,” “Batman and the Incredible Hulk,” and “Justice League American Avengers.”
Though these crossovers were primarily produced in the 90’s, the franchises have continued to produce new collaborations such as “ Batman Deadpool” in 2025.
Despite these crossovers, the companies have maintained a highly competitive nature, so much so that their fans have turned against each other.
Freshman Leonardo Solano stated, “If you think DC is better [you’re] wrong.”
While that is a more tame comment, many fans take their opinions to the extremes.
So, why do the students here feel that Marvel is better?
Freshman Logan Agayan added that he prefers the franchise because he believes “the stories in Marvel are better.”
Marvel fans think their movies are far better than DC movies as it allows them to bond with family.
Freshman Makenna Laws added that her and her family “love Marvel and [they] watch it together.”
For some Marvel fans it might just be about the story, however they receive strong support due to family ties like “Laws”. She grew up watching the Marvel Cinematic Universe with her family. This started her love for the franchise that has only continued to grow.
The same strong support goes for DC fans. Many of this franchise’s fans believe that DC’s movies are significantly better than Marvel movies because they watched it from childhood.
What was once a rivalry on who could sell more comic books, evolved into who could produce better movies.
Freshman Sophia Markrov stated, “I just grew up watching [DC].”
People might have begun to watch the movies or read the comics because of childhood nostalgia, but what kept them loyal to their franchise?
Senior Harmony Winslow says DC is better because their “characters are given better backstories with interesting lore.”
Nevertheless, no matter what franchise you are a fan of, you should acknowledge the achievements of the other, instead of insulting them. Both universes will continue to grow and create more heroes.
So which universe do you think is better? It’s a debate as old as time.
