Fernanda Matias, Editor of Passion

Fernanda Matias is Editor of Passion of The Daily Howl at Castaic High School. She loves to write opinion pieces that voice her perspectives, along with learning more about others’ opinions. Fernanda’s goal is to raise awareness for certain issues to the high school newspaper, and encourage students to become more in tune with their perspectives. Fernanda won an award in 2018 for her writing out of her graduating class. She co-founded the debate club at Castaic High School in order to give students an opportunity to better their critical thinking skills, along with practicing her own writing as well. Fernanda also founded the Latinx Culture Appreciation Club at Castaic High, where she helps others gain more knowledge and perspective on culture and diversity. Fernanda aspires to be a lawyer, where she will continue to exercise writing strong pieces about what she believes to be the true perspective. She loves to read in her free time, especially classics and historical-fiction novels, because it gives her the chance to explore others’ writing tactics and ways she can implement it into her own pieces. Along with reading, Fernanda also loves to play the piano, as it is another one of her creative outlets. Ultimately, Fernanda wishes to give silent voices a stage, and raise awareness for arising issues.
