After a whole year, Netflix premiered part one of the fourth season of Outer Banks, on October 10. The teen drama series follows the Pogues, John B, a teenage boy who joins with his four best friends, Pope, JJ, Kiara, Cleo, and his wife, Sarah, during their hunt for lost treasure that is linked to John B’s fathers’ disappearance.
At the end of Season three, we watched the Pogues settle back into a “normal life” after successfully finding the gold at El Dorado. Following the 18-month flash forward, we are introduced to Wes Generette, who proposes to the Pogues an offer to find Blackbeard’s treasure. At first, they are set back on whether or not they should take up this offer. They had just recently used their earned gold money to create a home for themselves that they named “Pougelandia 2.0,” where they own a successful tackle, bait, and charter tour shop.
Suddenly, things change when JJ gambles away the last of their $20,000 in gold on himself and is unable to pay the $13,000 property tax due on their house. This immediately persuades the Pogues to take up the offer in desperate need of the money being offered.
Little do they know; they’re getting themselves into something a lot more dangerous. They are not the only ones who are searching for the treasure. Kiara and JJ dive down to the old shipwreck, looking for an amulet; they are almost killed by a mysterious diver looking for the same thing. Once they successfully escape, JJ reveals he was able to retrieve the amulet, and soon finds out that it’s worth much more than they’ve been initially offered.
Things begin to take a huge turn when the man who recently tried to kill JJ and Kie, shows up at Pougelandia and kidnaps Cleo. Cleo then comes face to face with her former boss, Captain Terrance, who was hired by Lightner and his boss to look for the same amulet. After an intense fight, the latter threatens to kill Cleo if Pope does not show up with the amulet at a certain time. Fortunately, Pope arrives in time to save Cleo but loses the amulet in the process.
After saving Cleo, Pope finds out that the rest of the treasure is hiding in Charleston.
In Charleston, the gang crawls through a series of underground tunnels that lead them to a catacomb with rats and skeletons. What they don’t realize until later is that Lightner and his boss are also finding their way through, in an above ground tomb that can only be unlocked by the amulet that they now possess. We also find out that everyone is looking for the same thing: a mysterious scroll.
Now Sarah and Pope have a new problem, the original entrance they came in through was locked when it was closed, and the catacomb is going to fill up with water and drown them if they don’t find a way out soon.
At the end of the last episode, we find out that JJ’s dad is not his real dad, shocking right? He’s actually the son of Chandler and Larissa who are descendants of Blackbeard, so he’s not really a Pogue anymore, is he?
This was only part one, and so much has already happened. Do we think part two will be as exciting?
I guess we’ll find out!
