The Perks of Getting Involved in School Activities as a Coyote

Starting high school, especially for freshmen, can be nerve racking and a little bit scary. However, getting involved right off the bat can make your “settling-in-experience” a tad bit easier and make high school a whole lot more fun.

One awesome way to get involved at Castaic High is through sports. Joining sports not only surrounds you with people that have the same interests, but also forms a special bond within the players of the team.

Callie Birch, a freshman on the Castaic girls JV soccer team, says “It’s a great chance to meet new people and build new friendships with the girls on the team. One of my favorite moments with my team was when we did team bonding exercises that helped us grow closer together.”  Many Castaic sports teams have get-togethers and team celebrations that bring the group closer and provide a time to spend together other than practice and games.

Other than the social end, sports improve your physical health and mental health. Studies show that the more active you are physically, the more likely you are to be in a better state of mind. Being involved in school sports also gives you something to be excited about and look forward to throughout the day.

Another fun way to involve yourself in CHS is doing some research and finding a club that you think you will enjoy. Not only are clubs a great way to meet new people but they also give you an opportunity to really explore who you are as a person. Using your creativity and working together with other people to come up with new ideas is a great way to get your mind going and have fun with your peers.

A different opportunity to connect with the school is making an appearance at school events. The “high school experience” isn’t complete without things like football games and dances where you can let loose and enjoy the night with friends.

“In my opinion, dances and Friday night games are the best part of high school. And I really like the effort the school puts into the dances and stuff, like the games and everything,” says Larkin Smith.

So whatever you choose to do during your high school years, think about engaging in school activities so that you can look back as an adult and reminisce about the prime years of your life.
