About

Our Mission Statement:

The Daily Howl is a public forum for student expression that focuses on keeping the Castaic High School student body informed with accurate reporting. This student-run publication prioritizes diverse perspectives, amplifying student voices, and covering topics that are relevant to the community.

About:

The Daily Howl is the student newspaper of Castaic High School, founded in 2019 by Castaic High School’s journalism club. The Daily Howl published under the leadership of the journalism club for its first two years and subsequently as part of the journalism class at Castaic High School beginning in the fall of 2021. Ava Paulsen, the paper’s first Editor in Chief, and Mia Souther, the paper’s first Chief of Staff founded The Daily Howl and lead the paper for the first four years, until their graduation in 2023.

The Daily Howl originally published online issues on a quarterly basis and currently publishes online issues on a monthly basis during the school year.

The student-run organization is a news source associated with the National Student Press Association (NSPA) and LA Times High School Insider. The Daily Howl staff have received numerous awards and recognitions for their work, including the First in Class recognition from NSPA.
