Exploring Top Senior Trends at Castaic High School

From waking up at the crack of dawn to wearing cartoon backpacks, Castaic’s class of 2025 is putting their own fun twist on every tradition, old and new. As graduation approaches, in just a few weeks, here’s a look back into some unique styles, cultures, and future plans this year’s generation has to offer.

The senior year kicked off with a senior sunrise where many classmates gathered at the football field early in the morning with blanket, snacks, and, of course, their warm beverage in hand. As the year is wrapping up, plans for senior sunset are already in motion.

As the year moved forward into fall, seniors start to embrace more playful trends such as cartoon backpacks. From Hello Kitty to Spider-Man, seniors loved participating.

“I think that we kind of wanted to reminisce about the early days since it’s our last year. It’s definitely more of a nostalgic feeling,” stated Leila Sadra.

She continues to explain how this trend adds a layer of childhood innocence and throwback to the hallways. Chris Cailotto adds that over the years of Backpack Trends, “they just might get even more crazy,” proof that you’re never too old for a little fun.

Creativity has taken over the wardrobe too. A growing number of students decided to ditch traditional senior merch in favor of designing their own! From hoodies to decorating jeans, Kayla Hargrove did her own take on it.,

“I made these jeans where it said Senior 25 on the side with alternating letters being gray and orange. Then they were coyote paw prints. It was so cute.”

And Kylie Blackledge says, “Multiple classmates and teachers commented on my custom hoodie.” Which is such a positive outcome for this DIY senior trend.

Beyond wearing their school spirit, seniors decided to turn their parking spots into pieces of art and self-expression. With paint, chalk, and a whole lot of ideas and time, students had their decorated spots waiting for them every morning. One design that stood out was painted by Alia Ismail. She decided on taking inspiration from the Netflix series, Smiling Friends.

”I had an idea in mind and it took about six hours to finish,” explains Ismail.

While others, such as Lacie Jelin, took their time on their artwork, taking the entire day to perfect their parking spots with the occasional lunch breaks.

“Being able to display what it is and be proud of something that’s going to be shown for the rest of the year.”

She explains just how rewarding it was to do. It’s clear that these spots are more than just a parking space–It’s a place to show off school pride and personality for their last year of high school.

Of course, not all senior trends are recognized. Senior skip day continues to be a reoccurring trend for many. It’s not marked on any calendar or really even announced, but when the day comes, students spend the day relaxing with friends at places like the beach.

Lastly, but definitely not least for senior athletes, the excitement peaks with Signing Day- a proud moment where seniors officially commit to colleges and sports teams in front of family and friends. It’s not to be taken as an end, but as the beginning of a new chapter.

As the school year comes to an end with prom, there’s senior grad night, the final celebration where everything from late night laughs with friends to lifelong memories will definitely be made. Plans of going to Universal this year will be filled with music, games and fun. A perfect sendoff for a class that’s done things their way–from sunrise to sunset.
