As the 2024-2025 school year begins, Castaic High School has the pleasure of welcoming a new member to its staff. Assistant Principal Rich Bahr is an experienced and enthusiastic addition to Castaic’s path and he couldn’t be more excited.
From a young age, Bahr prospered in education and leadership roles. Bahr initially started working at a bible camp during summers in Washington. He quickly began to love the energy and being able to help and teach youth. At the camp, he taught water skiing, air rifle lessons, and bible lessons. Bahr explains that as we worked through college, he felt it was a “natural fit” to go into education and continue to work with kids.
Bahr officially started his education career in 1992 at Castaic Middle School. After four years of working at the middle school, he was brought onto Saugus High School where he first met current Castaic High school principal, Vince Ferry. He continued to work at Saugus for nearly 20 years. There, Bahr worked as a teacher, athletic director, football coach, and assistant principal. In 2022, Bahr moved to Sierra Vista Middle School. “I thought it would be a good fit going back to junior high. Started my career in junior high, and would wrap up my career in junior high.” However, it was not a proper fit for Bahr. When an opportunity came to “get back with Mr. Ferry at the high school ranks,” as Bahr says, he was jumping at the chance.
Bahr explains that “Castaic has a fantastic reputation, the community, the student body, the teaching staff, the facility itself is massive,” thus, he was very excited for the opportunity as an assistant principal.
As assistant principal, Bahr handles the upkeep and maintenance of the campus. On top of that, he oversees various different departments here on campus, such as campus safety, the english program, journalism, and the health office. However, his main objective is to “help and support kids reach their full potential.”
Outside of his scholarly duties, he’s a big family man, always putting family and faith above all else, making him the man he is today.
As for recreation, he loves golf and football. In fact, even before his employment at Castaic, he enjoyed mountain biking up in the hills around the high school.
Bahr’s extensive experience in education as well as his dedication to his passions create a perfect fit to Castaic’s staff. With Bahr as our new assistant principal, Castaic can expect great things for years to come.
