Every year, Hollywood’s most elite celebrities gather at the Met Gala to show off unique articles of clothing crafted by some of the most exclusive designers of our generation. This year’s Met took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, New York on May 2, 2022. With the theme being The Gilded Age, the array of possible looks was endless.

Blake Lively stunned people across the world with her transformative Versace gown. Accompanied by her husband Ryan Reynolds, as she walked the carpet, the large copper bow on her dress unraveled revealing a long, glamorous, green train. With the green and copper colors, Lively’s look was a tribute to New York’s infamous Statue of Liberty. Lively was named best dressed at the 2022 met by Vogue.

Kim Kardashian arrived at the Met dressed in a glittering gown belonging to Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe. The vintage dress created by Jean Louise was worn by Marilyn Monroe when she sang happy birthday to then president John F. Kennedy. Along with her bleached platinum hair, Kardashian explained how her look came to be. “The idea really came to me after the gala in September last year.” Kim said in a Vogue interview, referring to her attire. “I thought to myself, what would I have done for the American theme if it had not been the Balenciaga look? What’s the most American thing you can think of? And that’s Marilyn Monroe.”

Maude Apatow, the eldest daughter of director Judd Apatow and actress Leslie Mann, stunned at her first Met Gala in a fitted sheer gown from the brand Miu Miu paired with Cartier jewelry. Apatow had waves in her hair and wore deep red lipstick embodying an old Hollywood look. Though her attire was simple, her classy look was one of the most striking at the Met.

Rapper Cardi B had an elaborate entrance in a convertible matching her fitted gold Versace gown embellished in chains. With her gloves also being made up of chains, the rapper’s outfit was one of the most extravagant of the night. In total, her dress took work from over 20 people and 1,300 hours. “I wanted to give woman,” said Cardi in an interview with People magazine, and that was exactly what she embodied.

Like every year in the past, the 2022 Met had attire that is incomparable to what we see on a regular basis. The greatest stars of our generation continue to raise the bar for fashion and at events like the Met show what is possible.
