Many teens are left searching for a way to spend their time productively during the summer, and don’t know where to start. However, there are plenty of resources for teens in theSanta Clarita Valley that are actively searching for something to occupy their time. Although most are looking for paid opportunities, volunteering will also provide relevant experience when applying to jobs in the future.

On the city of Santa Clarita website, they promote a program called YES or Youth Employment Services. The YES program offers employment opportunities for low income or high risk youth that are aged 16-18 year round, and youth aged 15-19 during the summer. Successful applicants to the program are placed at job sites in the Santa Clarita Valley for 8 to 12 weeks for minimum wage. This program is great for earning skills necessary to pursue most jobs in the future.

The city of Santa Clarita volunteers website provides many volunteer opportunities offered throughout the valley and is run by the city. Not only could these opportunities help the city stay clean, they also benefit the many youth sport programs offered around the city. The volunteer website is actively looking for youth sport coaches, city beautification volunteers, blood drive workers, and many others.

Not only would these selfless volunteer opportunities be extremely appealing to any employer if listed on your resume, it’s also a great way to spend your time this summer. I personally suggest everyone to do something productive this summer and stay active.
