On September 3rd, 2021 Marvel released a long-awaited movie known as “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.” This movie was shot in San Francisco’s Richmond District also at Paramount Studios and directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. Shang Chi is highly recommended and has an audience rating of 4.7 stars. The cast of Shang Chi includes many well-known actors like Simu Liu and many more. Shang-Chi is about a renowned criminal who sired a very young boy named Shang Chi, which means the “rising and advancing of the spirit.” Then he raises Shang-Chi as the heir to his insidious secret society. In a hidden, ancient fortress in China, the boy became adept at both a multitude of martial arts and philosophical disciplines, completely unaware of his father’s evil pursuits. These pursuits and family drama push the plot forward and cause many problems within the family and the fight for the 10 rings and Shang-Chi’s integrity.

The movie is based on a Marvel comic series made in 1973. I recently got the chance to talk with a friend of mine that also worked on the movie, Eric Wang. Eric is a stuntman who has worked on many films for quite a few big movie companies. For this specific movie, he did stunts and did a lot on horseback like riding into the war on a horse wearing armor for that time period. The character he played was a warrior on horseback. I asked him about his experience on the job and in the film industry. He described working on The legend of the Ten Rings, “a dream come true and an honor to work on his first Marvel movie.” He also describes working in the film industry as, “very enjoyable and enjoys working with very talented stuntmen and crew.” The picture beside is a picture of Eric and his other coworkers on set for Shang-Chi. To enter the film industry takes a lot of hard work and perseverance, but when you succeed it is definitely a dream come true. Whether you are a stuntman, a special effects person, or an actor it is always an honor to work on something for a company as acclaimed as Marvel. Shang-Chi is a new and huge movie booming in the box offices which I definitely recommend seeing in your local movie theaters.
